How to Jailbreak Your iTouch or iPhone

How to Jailbreak Your iTouch or iPhone

Jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod touch (sometimes called an iTouch) is a process that unlocks the device from iTunes. Once unlocked, the jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch can install software from third-party vendors through the Cydia application store. Jailbreaking is an entirely legal (and reversible) procedure, and it can be accomplished by simply visiting the JailbreakMe.com website. JailbreakMe is compatible with the 4.3.3 firmware version on both the iPhone and the iPod touch.

Instructions

    • 1
Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer using the device's USB cable. Launch iTunes and click the "Sync" button to perform a full backup and synchronization of the device before you jailbreak it. This is a useful precaution that will allow you to revert to Apple's official firmware later on if you wish to do so.
    • 2
Launch the Safari Web browser on your iPhone or iPod touch by tapping its icon on the home screen.
    • 3
Navigate to the JailbreakMe.com website using the Safari browser. The page will load and display a listing for the Cydia app store application.
    • 4
Tap the blue "Free" button in the upper right corner of the screen. Tap it again when it turns green to confirm the jailbreak and installation of Cydia on your device.
    • 5
Launch Cydia once installation is complete and then tap the "Complete Upgrade" button. Cydia will be updated to the latest version automatically and the iPhone or iPod touch will reboot. Once the device restarts, it will be fully jailbroken.
