How to Install Applications on Your iPhone or iPod Touch Through iTunes

The iPhone and the iPod Touch come with a variety of free applications already installed; but if you want to do tasks not covered by the native apps, you can download more apps from Apple’s iTunes Store to your computer, then transfer them to your device. This is convenient if you don’t have access to Wi-Fi or a cellular data network to download apps directly to your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Instructions

      Launch Apple’s free iTunes application on your computer.

      Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to a USB port on your computer with the device’s included USB cable

      Click the icon of your iPhone or iPod Touch in the left pane of the iTunes application window.

      Select the “Apps” tab near the top of the iTunes window.

      Place a checkmark in the “Sync Apps” check box, located at the top of the window. A list of the apps on your computer that you downloaded from Apple’s App Store appears under the “Sync Apps” check box.

      Click the check box next to the name of each app that you want to install on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

      Select the “Sync” button, located at the bottom-right corner of the iTunes window.

      Click the “Eject” button next to the icon of your iPhone or iPod Touch on the left side of the iTunes window, then disconnect the device from the computer.
