Jism 2 is a 2012 erotic thriller film directed by Pooja Bhatt.[6] It is the sequel to the 2003 film Jism and marks the debut of Indo-Canadian pornographic actress Sunny Leone in Bollywood. Jism 2 was launched on 1 December 2011, on popular Indian television show Bigg Boss, making the launch a first time ever in the history of Indian Cinema. Mahesh Bhatt compared Jism 2 to Italian romance drama Last Tango In Paris.[7][8] Jism 2 has been passed with an A-certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).[9] Jism 2 had paid previews on 2 August 2012, one day prior to its worldwide release.[10]

Plot

At the beginning, Izna, a porn star (Sunny Leone) says that she is about to die but before that she wants to ask forgiveness from somebody for her sins. Then the story goes back 6 months.
Izna, a porn star is hired by an intelligence officer Aayan Thakur (Arunoday Singh) and Security Chief Guru Saldanah (Arif Zakaria) to become a 'Honey-trap' and help them retrieve critical information from a dreaded assassin Kabir (Randeep Hooda). During this mission Aayan gets to know about Izna's previous relationships with Kabir when Kabir, himself used to work for the intelligence. Kabir was discovered by Izna during one of his missions where Izna was being used for drug-peddling in a pub, which she was unaware of. Kabir makes an entry in the pub, shoots and arrests the guilty drug-peddlers. He calls Izna who explains that she was innocent and doesn't knew about the goon's intentions, Kabir takes a coin from her and decides not to arrest her and Izna was allowed to leave. Izna started loving Kabir and followed him to his house and handed him a love letter written with her own blood. Both start loving each other but one day Kabir disappears without any word. Six years pass by and Izna did not find him despite of many tries.
After Izna agreed to do the mission, she was taken to a residential colony in Sri Lanka, to live where Kabir also lived with an identity of a musician. Izna was asked to act as Aayan's fiancee and was given a story of how they both met each other. Izna was asked to go to Kabir's house to introduce herself as his new neighbor however he shut the door on her face as if he does not recognize her. The very next day he came to her window and wrote "Sorry" on the glass with his blood but ran away as soon as a phonecall came. Kabir attacks Guru Saldanah's team but Saldanah, however, makes an escape and plans to stop the operation. Meanwhile, Aayan plans to steal the data from Kabir while Izna takes Kabir out of his house. Izna sends a letter to Kabir telling him that she wants to meet him, following which Kabir leaves his house. Aayan takes charge and moves to Kabir's house to steal the data however upon copying data from his laptop gives Kabir an alert to his phone seeing which he runs towards his house. Aayan escapes with the data through the window but later, he discovers that the data was fake. Izna disagrees to stop the operation and says that she will never forgive Kabir and will soon bring him down and thus, requests to continue the operation.
Kabir still trusted Izna and never had a suspicion on her but his trusted friend and right hand Sumit suspects her and warns Kabir about her. Kabir proposes to marry her and asks Izna to shift to his house and leave Aayan. Izna agrees to this but in the meantime Aayan starts to love Izna and gets angry upon hearing this and tries to stop her, but she claims that she will only be able to steal the data once she gets into Kabir's house. Next day she moves to his house and starts staying with Kabir. In the meanwhile Kabir asked Sumit to arrange for a priest for the marriage, who accidentally read an SMS to Aayan on Izna's phone which proved she was a spy. Sumit goes to kill Aayan but was killed in a gun battle. Aayan calls Izna for some urgent talk and expresses his fears that they can no longer play this risky game as when Kabir will find out that Sumit is killed, he will kill Izna. Aayan gives her poison and asks her to mix it in the drink of Kabir.
Meanwhile when Izna was not at home, Kabir goes to Aayan's house and discovers Sumit's Bluetooth on the verandah. To find more about Sumit, Kabir searches the house and ends up discovering a book inside Izna's bag which had pages marked on them and had a similar story that Izna told to Kabir regarding her meeting Aayan. This confirms Sumit's suspicion and Kabir waits for Izna. Izna returns and offers him coffee. Izna mixes poison in the coffee given by Aayan. Kabir tells Izna that years back, he left Izna for a sting operation but during the operation, he had discovered that the country's own officers, security forces and politicians were corrupt. Therefore, he had shortlisted them and then he had them killed.
According to Kabir, he was a patriot and not a terrorist. Kabir threw away the poisoned coffee and told Izna that the Guru Saldanah and his team is a fraud who would kill Izna as soon as they would get the hard disk containing the original data. He asks Izna to escape and offers her a new passport, tickets and a Swiss bank account from where she can withdraw unlimited money. Yet, Izna refuses and when Kabir hugs Izna and kisses her before their separation, Izna shoots him in his stomach. Kabir dies immediately and Izna runs away with the hard disk containing the original data. She goes to Guru Saldanah and hands over the hard disk to him. However, she is soon surprised to know that Guru Saldanah was a fraud and after the task she was supposed to be killed and Aayan was given this responsibility to kill her; later, Aayan changed his mind as he was in love with her, hearing that Saldanah tried to kill Izna but Aayan killed him instead.
Izna told Aayan that because of their fraud mission she killed an innocent person, that too, the love of her life who blindly trusted her. Izna says that she would prefer to die with Kabir rather than living with Aayan and attempts to leave with the hard disk. Aayan threatens to shoot Izna if she leaves the house, but still she leaves and then she is shot by Aayan from the back. Izna falls to the ground but when Aayan comes to check whether she died or not, Izna shoots him to death. Then finally Izna, herself, dies.
After dying Izna asks forgiveness from Kabir who at once, forgives her. Izna tells Kabir that without him, heaven won't be heaven for her and with him, she won't be afraid to go to hell. Then their souls rests in peace.

Casting

Producer-director Mahesh Bhatt entered the house of Bigg Boss for a couple of hours to present a contract deal to Sunny to cast her as the lead actress in this sequel of the film Jism. The film will be directed by his producer-actress daughter Pooja Bhatt[11] While [[]] plays the female lead, the film will have two male protagonists. Currently Pooja Bhatt has signed Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh as lead actors.[12] Imran Zahid is reportedly playing a role of a narcotics sleuth hailing from Delhi, in the film.[13]
About casting Sunny Leone in the film Pooja Bhatt says, "I signed Sunny Leone for the same reason I signed John Abraham in Jism. It was instinct. I broke the perception that models can't act with Jism. Now, I am looking forward to break another perception by signing Sunny Leone, a pornstar in Jism 2." Stating the differences between Jism and Jism 2 she says, "Jism was a love story for mature audience, Jism 2 is for mature adult audience. We are looking at raising the bar in every sense - emotionally and sensually. It would be the story of human heart, crime of passion, revenge, betrayal, the same elements that made Jism, with a fresh story.[14]

Filming

Filming began on 1 April 2012 in Jaipur.[15] The second schedule of Jism 2 was shot in Goa. The last and final shooting schedule of Jism 2 was shot in Sri Lanka[16] The sequel hit the screens on 3 August 2012.[17] It was announced the film will hit 200 theaters in the Andhra Pradesh state in Southeast India in their primary language Telugu.[18] Director Pooja Bhatt is very fond of Sunny Leone for her character izna portrayed in the movie.

Film Certification

CBFC was initially not happy with the lengthy sex scenes in Jism 2. It had previously declined to issue certificate to the movie. It objected to several scenes including the oil massage scene where Izna (played by Sunny Leone) turns around and a prominent portion of her breast was visible.
The film was passed with an A-certificate by the CBFC, says director Pooja Bhatt, who is glad that cuts were only made "upon her discretion." Pooja tweeted, "A-certificate received for Jism 2. August 3 here we come! India just got itself an erotic thriller that truly reflects the times,". "Let me also clarify to all my 'well-wishers' that Jism 2 has not been affected in the least by the cuts I made 'upon my own discretion'," added the actress-turned-director. [19]

Jism 2 received mixed reviews from critics. Srijana Mitra Das of the Times of India rated the movie 3.5 out 5 and stated, "Jism-2 is a sexy movie - but it's not as dirty a picture as you might expect. Surprisingly, Jism-2 hovers over sex, like a butterfly gliding across one of the many water pools the movie features. Jism-2 offers several surprises, foremost being Leone's performance."[20]Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film a score of 2.5 out of 5, and said, "On the whole, JISM 2 has Sunny Leone as its USP, but the lackluster screenplay and the sluggish pace act as deterrents. However, Sunny Leone in the driver's seat, coupled with a generous dose of skin show and erotica, besides an attention-grabbing title, should act as a honey-trap to lure the audiences. But how one wishes this jism had soul as well!"[21]Anupama Chopra of the Hindustan Times gave it 3.5 out 5 noting, "I thought that Jism 2 is a sequel only because it also has sex, might push the envelope again. The film is an anti-climactic let-down."[22]. Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com gave the film a score of 1.5 out of 5, concluding that "It's like Sunny Leone's assets are the script, screenplay and sole purpose of Jism 2 and everyone outside that -- Hooda, Singh, Zakaria or the audience -- is obliged to wag their tongues with thrill. Well, duh, for thinking otherwise."[23]Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN awarded it a score of 1 out of 5 while commenting that he thinks "the plot itself is like a big, black hole there is no coming out of. For all its pretentious babble on love and pain, it’s a film that leaves your own jism in much pain as you finally get out of your seat."[24] Independent Bollywood gave 1 out of 5 stars and commented "No Jism in Jism 2"[25].

Protests

The promotion and release of Jism 2 sparked protests by social conservatives across India, including by the National Students Union of India in Allahabad[26], Bajrang Dal in Bhopal [27], Assam [28], Amritsar (where effigies of Leone and Pooja Bhatt were burned) [29] and Mumbai (where protesters tore down posters promoting the film)[30]. Many protesters have also taken up legal action against the showing of the film. Rakesh Nayayik, an activist from Varanasi, has accused Jism 2 of illegally promoting a porn star, and has filed a PIL in the Allahabad High Court to ban the film. [31]

Box Office

Domestic

Jism 2 opened well with collections above 90% on average and some places having stronger collections in the 60-70% range in its opening day.[32]Jism 2 performed strongly on its opening day at the box office with collection of around INR7.50 crore (US$1.36 million) adding to the INR1.50 crore (US$271,500) nett paid previws.[33] The film had a huge fall on the second day as it collected around INR5.50 crore (US$1 million) mainly due to negative critical reception and word of mouth.[34]Jism 2 scored well over its first weekend due to a good opening including paid previews at around INR20.50 crore (US$3.71 million).[35]The film dropped on Monday and collected around INR2.50 crore (US$452,500), on Tuesday there was a further drop collecting, INR1.75 crore (US$316,750) taking the five day business of the film to INR24.75 crore (US$4.48 million) nett.[36]Jism 2 had a decent first week of INR29.50 crore (US$5.34 million) nett including business from paid previews.[37]The film had a steep good in its second weekend collecting around INR8.50 crore (US$1.54 million) nett.[38]Jism 2 did good in week two and collected around INR14.50 crore (US$2.62 million) and taking its two week total to around INR34.50 crore (US$6.24 million) nett.Boxofficeindia declared the film an "Average" grosser.[39]After three weeks its total is INR34.97 crore (US$6.33 million).[5]

Overseas

Jism 2 had business of around $100,000 in Overseas. It had released on around 60 prints there in 4 days.[40]

Reception

The music of the movie was met with mostly positive review.Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama gave 3 and half out of 5 stars and concluded "Ultimately, Jism 2 delivers a tad more than what seemed like a promise before the album was played. A package affair that goes well with the theme of the film, it also ensures that there is a consistent sound right through the album which doesn't distract a listener or make him jump into the next track".He picked Abhi Abhi, Maula, Yeh Jism as his favourate.Times Of India rated it with 4 stars out of five and remarked ".The soundtrack has been assembled well and its variety will prove to be its key to success. It also backs the sensuality of the film quite well".Glamsham also rated it with four star and commented "JISM 2 is another musical spectacular from Bhatt camp that will work commercially and will hopefully draw potential response from its target listeners".[41].
